The Charlestown, MA community is taking a moment to honor and remember Neil E. Gillis Jr., a beloved son, brother, and friend, five years after his untimely passing at the age of 31. Neil’s life, filled with love, laughter, and dedication, continues to inspire and resonate with those who knew him, despite the years that have passed since his death on July 30, 2019.

Neil was born and raised in Charlestown, where he developed a deep-rooted connection with his community. Known for his infectious smile and kind heart, Neil was a graduate of Charlestown High School, where he excelled academically and athletically. 

He was a star athlete, particularly passionate about basketball, and his competitive spirit was matched only by his sportsmanship and camaraderie with teammates.

After high school, Neil pursued higher education at Boston University, earning a degree in Business Administration. He quickly made a name for himself in the local business community, 

admired for his work ethic, integrity, and the genuine care he showed to his colleagues and clients. Neil’s professional success was a source of pride for his family and a testament to his determination and talent.

Neil’s greatest joy, however, came from his relationships with family and friends. He was a devoted son to Neil Sr. and Linda, and a loving brother to his sisters, Katie and Emily. His friends remember him as someone who was always there to lend a hand or share a laugh, a person who made every gathering brighter with his presence.

Tragically, Neil’s life was cut short, leaving a void that is still felt deeply today. The anniversary of his passing is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring impact one person can have on their community. In his memory, the Gillis family has established the Neil E. 

Gillis Jr. Foundation, aimed at supporting local youth sports programs and providing scholarships to deserving students, ensuring that Neil’s legacy of generosity and community spirit lives on.
