Mark Bombara Perth Suicide : Mark Bombara Obituary : Jennifer Petelczyc Daughter Murdered Over Friend’s Marriage Breakdown

The tight-knit community of Floreat is in mourning following the senseless murders of Jennifer Petelczyc, 59, and her youngest daughter Gretl, 18. The pair fell victim to a tragic chain of events stemming from the marital breakdown of a family friend.

Jennifer and Gretl were fatally shot by 63-year-old Mark Bombara on Friday afternoon at their home on Berkeley Crescent. Bombara, the ex-husband of one of Jennifer’s close friends, arrived at their house armed with a gun after learning his former partner had sought refuge there following the recent dissolution of their marriage.

When Bombara discovered that his ex-wife was not at the address, he turned the firearm on Jennifer, killing her instantly, and then critically injured Gretl.

Police responded to the incident promptly, arriving on the scene at 4.30pm, just in time to hear the final gunshot, which is believed to have been Bombara taking his own life. Gretl was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, but tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities are currently investigating the possibility that the women were restrained with cable ties before being executed. The chilling details of the crime have sent shockwaves through the community.

Jennifer and her daughter Gretl shared a close bond, frequently appearing together in Tiktok videos, showcasing their vibrant relationship.

Bombara and Jennifer had met a few times but did not have a significant relationship. The brutality of the attack underscores the unpredictable and devastating impact of domestic issues on innocent bystanders.

Curtin Independent MP Kate Chaney expressed her condolences, highlighting the profound sense of loss felt by the community. "The Floreat community is very tight-knit, and many people have a connection either to the family or the street," Chaney said. "This tragedy has left a deep scar on all of us."

As police continue their investigation, the community grapples with the loss of two beloved residents. A memorial is being planned to honor Jennifer and Gretl, whose lives were tragically cut short. The Floreat community remains united in their grief, offering support to the surviving family members and friends during this heartbreaking time.
