RCC Suicide : Riverside City College Student Found Dead At Parking Structure On April 16

Yesterday, on Tuesday, April 16, a tragic incident unfolded as a student from Riverside City College died by suicide within the confines of the parking structure. The district promptly disseminated an emergency notification in response to the devastating occurrence, clarifying that a distressing medical emergency involving a student had taken place at the RCC parking structure, which continues to be accessible..”

“This is an update regarding an emergency medical incident involving a student at the RCC parking structure earlier today,” RCC President Claire Oliveros said.“ It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic news of the loss of one of our students. My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and RCC community who are impacted by this tragedy. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time,” she said.

“I want to reassure you support is available for anyone who may need it. We have scheduled Drop-In Crisis Counseling onsite tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the MLK Building Room 203.” “Additional resources are available in person and virtually at RCC’s Health and Psychological Services,” Oliveros said.

“Employee services are available through the RCCD Employee Assistance Program. And, links to local resources and national crisis helplines are available 24/7. I urge anyone who is struggling with mental health or who may be in crisis to reach out for assistance,” Oliveros added.

“I’d like to begin my student report by saying on behalf of the student body how incredibly sad I am to hear the passing of the student today at RCC who unfortunately decided to take their life jumping from four stories in the parking garage,” student trustee Melody Ward said at the Board of Trustees meeting.

“I think it’s really also a reminder to be sensitive to everyone, you don’t know what people are going through. This is a very trying time in general and will probably be viewed in history by such in terms of our society,” Ward said. Police were not immediately available for comment.
