A former deputy of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) was arrested on March 26, 2025, after being accused of exchanging inappropriate sexual messages with a teenage girl. James Traylor, 57, from Mandeville, faces one charge of computer-aided solicitation of a juvenile.

A former deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) has been arrested following allegations of inappropriate communication with a minor. James Traylor, 57, of Mandeville, was taken into custody on March 26, 2025, and charged with one count of computer-aided solicitation of a juvenile.

According to authorities, Traylor, who previously served with JPSO, is accused of engaging in sexually explicit conversations with a teenage girl through digital communications. Investigators became aware of the alleged misconduct after receiving a tip regarding the nature of the exchanges. Law enforcement officials launched an inquiry, which reportedly uncovered evidence supporting the allegations.

Traylor was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where he is awaiting further legal proceedings. Officials have not disclosed how long the alleged communication took place or whether the victim had any prior connection to the former deputy. It remains unclear if Traylor was still actively employed by JPSO at the time of the alleged incident or if he had already separated from the department.

JPSO officials issued a statement condemning the alleged actions and affirming their commitment to upholding ethical standards among law enforcement personnel. "We take these allegations seriously, and any misconduct—especially involving juveniles—will not be tolerated," the statement read.

The charge of computer-aided solicitation of a minor is a serious offense in Louisiana, carrying potential penalties that include imprisonment and mandatory registration as a sex offender if convicted. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information regarding the case to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.

Traylor's bond has not been publicly disclosed, and it is currently unknown whether he has retained legal representation. His first court appearance is expected in the coming days as prosecutors move forward with the case.
