Lake Eufaula Boat Accident : Charles Gustafson Indianola Death - Christianson Adams Injured After Boat Wreck

A boat accident late Sunday night at Lake Eufaula in Pittsburg County has resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man from Indianola. The incident occurred near the Number 9 marina in the Longtown area at approximately 11:37 p.m.

The deceased, Charles Gustafson, was one of two passengers aboard a 2019 JBC Express 24-foot open boat driven by Michael Reagan, 25, of Eufaula. The boat was heading southbound under the Number 9 bridge when it ran aground on the west bank, struck several trees, and came to rest, ejecting two passengers in the process.

Charles Gustafson was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Michael Reagan was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where he is currently listed in fair condition, suffering from external trunk and head injuries.

Another passenger, Christianson Adams, 23, of McAlester, was taken to McAlester Regional Health Center. Adams was treated for a head injury and has since been released.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) is investigating the accident. Initial reports indicate that the driver, Reagan, exhibited an odor of alcohol. Additionally, none of the boat's occupants were using personal flotation devices at the time of the accident.

Troopers Thomas Giulioli, Ty Wallace, and Cody Enloe, along with assistance from the Number 9 Fire Department, Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office, and the Choctaw Lighthorse Police Department, responded to the scene.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging boaters to prioritize safety by avoiding alcohol consumption and wearing personal flotation devices while on the water. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of boating and the critical importance of safety measures.
