It should have been a high school prom to remember but instead it became a night of infamy as 17-year-old Samantha McCaffrey was shot dead allegedly by Douglas Barnes. The tragedy unfolded Friday night outside Livonia High School, and it sent shockwaves through the community.
At that moment, Douglas Barnes pulled up in his vehicle and with an AK-47 in hand he opened fire on the limo just as 25-year-old Samantha McCaffrey — daughter of Livonia Police Department Sergeant Mike McCaffrey was exiting; she died from her injuries.

In 2020, Gino Barnes—the 19-year-old son of Douglass Barnes—was gunned down by Sergeant McCaffrey during a traffic stop. McCaffrey reportedly opened fire on Gino after the two men were involved in a road rage incident regarding expired tags and Gino reached into his glove compartment.
In the aftermath, law enforcement agencies swiftly apprehended Barnes. He was charged with multiple offenses, the most severe being first-degree murder. Given the gravity of his crimes and the premeditated nature of his actions, Barnes is currently being held without bond.
