Columbia, SC (WOLO) — Law enforcement officials from the Columbia Police Department have pressed charges against an individual for Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, following an incident where gunfire erupted at a local car dealership on Monday afternoon. Reports indicate that around 3 pm, authorities were dispatched to the J.T. Kia car dealership located along Greystone Boulevard in response to the incident, where they discovered a man sustaining life-threatening injuries. The victim has been identified by the Richland County Coroner’s office as 39-year-old Graham Pope.
According to investigators, the suspect, now identified as 29-year-old Westley Gross, reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle following the shooting, subsequently leading law enforcement officers on a pursuit through downtown Columbia.
Gross was apprehended shortly after when he collided with a wooded area along Shady Lane. Authorities have confirmed that Gross is currently detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. As of now, law enforcement officials have refrained from disclosing a potential motive behind the fatal shooting.
