The grieving mother of a missing Garrison man, Jeanne-Marie Fleming, received heartbreaking news when police informed her that her son, Colin Marma, had been found deceased in the waters near Rockaway Beach in Queens. The discovery was made by a bystander who promptly contacted the authorities on Wednesday.
Fleming, already reeling from her son's disappearance, was delivered the tragic update on Thursday by volunteers from Hope Alive 845, who had been actively involved in the family's relentless search efforts for the missing 26-year-old.
Colin Marma, who was last seen on February 2nd, had his disappearance under investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Fleming revealed that Marma had been battling mental illness, adding another layer of anguish to their already devastating situation.
"We are all just completely devastated beyond belief. We have a hole in our hearts today," expressed Fleming, encapsulating the profound sense of loss the family was experiencing.
In the midst of their desperate search, Marma's family had believed he might be somewhere in the New York City area. They devoted their weekends over the past eight weeks to scouring Manhattan and the boroughs, distributing flyers at precincts, homeless shelters, and subway stations in hopes of locating him.
However, the NYPD disclosed that Marma's body was found in a badly decomposed state, signaling the prolonged nature of his absence. While his death is currently under investigation, authorities have indicated that no foul play is suspected.
In the wake of this tragic discovery, Marma's identical twin, Quinn, and their 29-year-old brother, Dylan, are making arrangements to travel to New York from out-of-state to support their grieving family members.
Plans have been made for Marma's wake, scheduled for Wednesday at McCoul Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a funeral service at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction on Thursday at 10 a.m. As the family prepares to bid farewell to their beloved Colin, they are enveloped in an outpouring of grief and solidarity from their community.
