Eddie Ray Hughes, age 53, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, at his home in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Born on December 11, 1971, also in Banner Elk, Eddie was a lifelong member of the community he loved and served. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of faith, service, and devotion to family will live on for years to come.Eddie dedicated his professional life to serving and protecting others through his career in law enforcement. 

Known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and calm presence, he approached his duties with a deep sense of responsibility and compassion. He was respected by his colleagues and trusted by the community, always striving to make a positive difference in the lives of those around him.Outside of work, Eddie’s greatest joy was his family. He was a proud and loving grandfather who treasured 

every moment spent with his grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter, advice, and unconditional love. He found peace in simple pleasures, whether casting a line into a quiet fishing spot, cheering on his favorite football teams, or watching NASCAR races. These moments brought him happiness and provided a way to unwind and connect with the people he loved most.

A man of strong faith, Eddie was a dedicated and active member of Crossnore First Baptist Church, where he found comfort, fellowship, and spiritual strength. His kind heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to help others made him a cherished friend and neighbor.As the Banner Elk and Newland communities mourn this loss, they are united in keeping Eddie’s family in their thoughts and prayers, honoring a life lived with purpose, humility, and love.
