neighborhood, along the 600 block of Brunson Avenue, after Birmingham police responded to a call describing a disturbance that may have involved a weapon.According to authorities, officers encountered at least one individual during the response, and an altercation unfolded that led to the discharge of police weapons. Ragland was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has now taken over the investigation, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
