RENO, NV – Dakota Hawver, the alleged gunman in the deadly mass shooting outside Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort, has died after sustaining gunshot wounds during a confrontation with police.

RENO, NV – Dakota Hawver, the alleged gunman in the deadly mass shooting outside Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort, has died after sustaining gunshot wounds during a confrontation with police. The incident, which unfolded late Thursday evening, sent shockwaves through the community and left several families devastated.

Authorities say the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the popular resort and casino, where a large crowd had gathered. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots in rapid succession, followed by chaos as people scrambled for safety. 

When police arrived at the scene, they encountered Hawver, 27, who was reportedly still armed. A confrontation ensued, during which officers discharged their weapons, critically wounding him.Hawver was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police confirmed his death early Friday morning. 

Several victims of the initial shooting remain hospitalized, some in critical condition. The names and exact number of victims have not yet been officially released pending notification of next of kin.According to investigators, Hawver was known to law enforcement and had a prior criminal record, though a motive for the shooting remains under investigation. 

Authorities are examining surveillance footage, digital evidence, and interviewing witnesses in an effort to piece together the timeline and circumstances leading up to the tragic event.Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve issued a statement expressing condolences to the victims and their families, and commending first responders for their swift action. “

This was a senseless act of violence that has shaken our city,” she said. “We will support the families and do everything in our power to understand how and why this happened.”The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the FBI.
