Devastating Crash in Fort Lauderdale Claims Unborn Child, Leaves Family Injured Fort Lauderdale, FL – A tragic crash on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, has left a community in mourning and a family forever changed after a suspected drunk driver collided with a family van, resulting in the death of an unborn baby and serious injuries to several passengers.The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Broward Boulevard and NW 31st Avenue.
According to investigators, the van, carrying a family of five, was struck by a speeding SUV that reportedly ran a red light. Witnesses described the horrifying moment the SUV T-boned the van, sending it spinning into a utility pole.Inside the van was a pregnant woman, her husband, their two young children, and the woman’s mother.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene and transported all occupants to Broward Health Medical Center. Tragically, the pregnant woman, whose identity has not been released, lost her unborn child due to the force of the impact. She remains hospitalized in serious condition, while her husband and children are being treated for multiple fractures and internal injuries. Her mother also sustained significant trauma and is currently in stable condition.
The suspected drunk driver, a 32-year-old man whose name has not yet been disclosed, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken into custody.
