Spring, TX – June 30, 2025 — A shocking and deeply disturbing shooting unfolded today at the Hy-Vee grocery store in Muscatine, Iowa, leaving residents stunned and heartbroken. What began as a seemingly normal day for shoppers quickly turned into a nightmare when gunfire erupted inside the store, resulting in multiple injuries and at least one confirmed fatality.

Authorities responded swiftly to reports of an active shooter around midday. Shoppers and employees scrambled for safety as chaos erupted in the aisles. According to initial statements from the Muscatine Police Department, the suspect is believed to have been targeting a woman with whom he had a prior relationship. 

Witnesses say the man followed her into the store and opened fire, hitting her multiple times before fleeing.Emergency medical personnel arrived within minutes, treating victims on the scene and transporting several individuals to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Muscatine for further care. The woman, whose identity has not yet been publicly released, is said to be in critical condition. 

The suspect was later apprehended after a short pursuit and is now in custody.
