Russell Brand Pleads Not Guilty to Rape and Sexual Assault Charges in Historic London Trial

On May 30, 2025, British comedian and actor Russell Brand, 49, pleaded not guilty to five charges of sexual offences during a preliminary hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London. The charges, involving four women, include one count of rape, one count of 

indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault.The alleged incidents occurred between 1999 and 2005, with specific accusations including a rape in Bournemouth in 1999, indecent assault in London in 2001, and oral rape and sexual assault in 2004 .

These charges stem from a police investigation initiated after a 2023 exposé by The Times and Channel 4's Dispatches into Brand's alleged misconduct . Brand, represented by solicitor Oliver Schneider-Sikorsky, arrived at court accompanied by his father. 

He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to stand trial beginning June 3, 2026, with proceedings expected to last up to five weeks .Brand has publicly denied all allegations, stating that his past relationships were consensual and attributing previous personal misconduct to his struggles with addiction . 

He has addressed the charges in public videos, maintaining his innocence and expressing appreciation for his supporters. Known more recently for his controversial YouTube commentary on politics and health misinformation, Brand is currently out on conditional bail pending his trial .
