AUSTIN, Texas –The Covington Middle School community is reeling from the sudden and heartbreaking loss of eighth-grade student Vadir Gonzalez-Arias, who tragically passed away on Wednesday, May 29, following a medical emergency that occurred during a school field trip the day prior.

According to school officials, Vadir had been participating in what was meant to be a fun and memorable outing with classmates when he experienced an unexpected health crisis. Staff on-site immediately responded, administering aid and calling emergency services. He was transported to a nearby hospital where, despite all efforts from medical professionals, he passed away the following day.

In a letter to parents, Covington Middle School Principal Tonya Nuncio expressed profound sorrow over the loss. “Vadir was a bright, kind, and deeply loved member of our school family,” she wrote. “His passing is a devastating loss to all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”
