MONROE COUNTY, MISS. — The Monroe County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 10-year-old Treven Pitts, a brave young boy whose final act was one of courage, love, and selfless heroism. Treven tragically lost his life on Sunday, April 28, 2025, after rescuing his younger brother from a pond in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, MISS. — The Monroe County community is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of 10-year-old Treven Pitts, whose life was tragically cut short on Sunday, April 28, 2025. Treven died a hero, sacrificing his life to save his younger brother from drowning in a pond — a final act of extraordinary courage, love, and selflessness that will never be forgotten.According to local officials and family accounts, Treven and his younger brother were playing near a pond when the younger child slipped into the water. 

Without hesitation, Treven jumped in to save him. Despite the danger, Treven’s only concern was his brother’s safety — and he succeeded. Thanks to Treven’s swift and brave actions, his little brother survived. Sadly, Treven was unable to escape the water himself.

Emergency responders were called to the scene, but Treven could not be revived. The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the close-knit Monroe County community. Family, friends, teachers, and neighbors are mourning the loss of a boy remembered for his bright smile, kind heart, and fearless spirit.

“He was always looking out for others,” one family friend shared. “Even at just 10 years old, Treven had the heart of a protector. His bravery speaks volumes about the kind of person he was.”

A memorial has begun to grow near the pond, with flowers, stuffed animals, and handwritten notes left in his honor. Vigils and community prayer gatherings are being organized to support the Pitts family during this unimaginably difficult time.
