A 47-year-old mother in Sydney has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her three sleeping children and then herself early Monday, authorities said.

A 47-year-old mother in Sydney has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her three sleeping children before turning the knife on herself in the early hours of Monday morning, authorities confirmed.  

Emergency services were called to a residence in the city's southwest at approximately 1:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a violent domestic incident. Upon arrival, paramedics and police officers found three children—aged 10, 12, and 14—suffering from multiple stab wounds. The mother, who had also sustained self-inflicted injuries, was located at the scene and taken into custody.  

The children were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they underwent emergency treatment. Authorities have since confirmed that all three are in stable condition, though they have suffered serious injuries. The mother was also hospitalized under police guard before being formally charged with three counts of attempted murder.  

New South Wales Police have launched a full investigation into the incident, with officers from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad working alongside forensic experts to determine the circumstances leading up to the attack. Initial reports suggest there were no prior indications of violence in the household, and investigators are now exploring potential mental health concerns as a factor.  

Neighbors described the family as quiet and expressed shock over the horrific events. “They seemed like a normal family,” one local resident told reporters. “We never saw anything that suggested something like this could happen.”The mother is expected to appear in court once medically cleared. 

Authorities have assured the public that support services are being provided to the children and their extended family members. The case has reignited discussions about mental health awareness and domestic violence prevention in Australia, with officials urging those struggling with personal crises to seek help before situations escalate to violence.
