Shortly after 2 a.m., the tragic accident unfolded on a remote stretch of highway near the riverbanks. The two men, close friends and coworkers, had been traveling home after a late-night shift. 

Their pickup truck veered off the rain-slicked road, hit an embankment, and overturned into the swollen river below. The force of the impact left the truck partially submerged, trapping both men inside. 

Local authorities believe that the vehicle’s doors and windows became wedged shut, leaving no escape as the water level rose rapidly. Witnesses reported hearing faint cries for help, but the treacherous currents and darkness hindered any immediate rescue efforts.

Emergency responders arrived within minutes of the 911 call, but by the time divers reached the truck, it was too late. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families, notified in the early hours of the morning, are struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss. 

John Fields, 34, was described as a devoted father and avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and camping with his three children. Timothy Hubbard, 29, was known for his humor and unwavering loyalty to friends and family. The two had shared a deep bond, often referred to as “brothers” by those who knew them.

Local officials are investigating the incident, citing the hazardous road conditions and lack of guardrails along the curve as contributing factors. Community members are calling for safety improvements to prevent future tragedies. 

A vigil will be held near the accident site this weekend to honor the lives of John and Timothy, who leave behind grieving loved ones and a community shaken by their untimely deaths.
