False Alarm at Woodstock High School: Authorities Respond to Active Shooter Report, Prompting Code Red Lockdown A false report of an active shooter at Woodstock High School in Georgia on the morning of November 20, 2024, triggered a Code Red lockdown, causing widespread fear and a massive police response.
The scare, which turned out to be a hoax, left students, parents, and staff shaken as law enforcement worked swiftly to secure the campus. The situation unfolded at approximately 9:15 a.m., when local authorities received a call claiming there was an active shooter inside the school. Within minutes, Woodstock
Police, Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies, and SWAT teams converged on the campus. The school was immediately placed on lockdown, with students sheltering in classrooms as teachers followed emergency protocols.
Parents, alerted by texts from their children and local news reports, rushed to the scene, where they were met by barricades and a heavy police presence. Many waited anxiously in nearby parking lots, fearing the worst.
Law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the building, clearing rooms one by one. After nearly an hour of investigation, authorities determined that the threat was a false alarm, a deliberate hoax known as “swatting.”
Police Chief Calvin Moss addressed the media, confirming there was no active shooter and condemning the reckless act. “Swatting is not a prank—it is a dangerous crime that puts lives at risk and traumatizes entire communities,” Moss stated.
Though relieved by the resolution, many parents and students expressed lingering anxiety over the ordeal. “It was terrifying,” said one student. “We didn’t know if it was real or not.”
The Cherokee County School District announced it would provide counseling services to students and staff affected by the incident. Meanwhile, investigators are working to identify the source of the hoax, with potential criminal charges to follow.
