EPD: Pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by car in street racing crash Accident on Riverside Drive

A serious street racing crash on Riverside Drive has left a pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle involved in the illegal race. According to the Evansville Police Department (EPD), the accident occurred late at night, when two cars were reportedly engaged in a high-speed race on the busy road.

The race took a tragic turn when one of the vehicles lost control, veering off the roadway and hitting a pedestrian who was crossing the street at the time.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the sound of screeching tires and the sudden impact leaving bystanders in shock. The vehicles involved in the race were reportedly speeding well above the legal limit, creating a dangerous situation for anyone in the vicinity.

Street racing has been a growing concern in the Evansville area, with residents frequently reporting high-speed chases and reckless driving along Riverside Drive, a popular location for these illegal activities.

The Evansville Police Department has expressed deep concern over the rise in street racing incidents and has vowed to crack down on those responsible.

EPD officers responded to the scene promptly and have taken both drivers into custody. They face charges related to reckless driving, street racing, and possibly vehicular assault, pending further investigation.

This tragic accident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by illegal street racing, not only to the participants but to innocent bystanders as well.

Local authorities are urging the community to report any street racing activity immediately to help prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of pedestrians and other drivers.

The pedestrian’s family and the community are hoping for a swift recovery, but the incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement and penalties to deter illegal racing.
