Among the chaos and heartbreak, beloved math teacher David Phenix survived the horrific event, narrowly escaping with his life.

While his survival offers a glimmer of hope, the loss of life has left the school and local community devastated and in mourning.

David Phenix, a highly respected and admired math teacher at Apalachee High School, is known for his dedication to students, his passion for teaching, and his unwavering commitment to education.

Over his 15-year tenure at the school, he has positively impacted the lives of countless students with his engaging teaching style and genuine care for their academic success and well-being.

His classroom has been a space of learning and support, where students felt safe and encouraged to reach their full potential.

The tragic shooting, perpetrated by a 14-year-old student, Colt Gray, sent shockwaves through the school and community. Gray has since been charged with the murders of two students and two teachers.
