A tragic accident occurred on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Silver Lake Sand Dunes, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The incident took place when a female in her 30s was struck by a Jeep with significant damage to its passenger side.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene following reports of the accident. Upon arrival, a park ranger found the victim unconscious and heavily bleeding. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was initiated immediately in an effort to revive her. The ranger reported no signs of life as CPR continued.
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was applied by responders while CPR was ongoing. Aero Med was notified and en route, with a landing zone being established by the Hart Fire Department to facilitate the rapid transport of the victim. However, despite the efforts of the emergency responders, the situation remained dire.
Tragically, EMS personnel later confirmed that the pedestrian had succumbed to her injuries. CPR efforts were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Consequently, Aero Med and the Hart Fire Department were instructed to stand down.
A medical examiner has been called to the site to conduct an official examination. Additionally, an accident investigator from Mason County is being brought in to further scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The driver of the Jeep, which sustained considerable damage, is being taken to the hospital by an officer for a mandatory blood draw to check for any impairments that may have contributed to the accident.
