The equestrian community is in mourning following the tragic death of professional horse rider Georgie Campbell (GBR) during the Bicton International Horse Trials. The accident occurred on Sunday, May 26, 2024, during the event held in Devon.
Campbell suffered a fatal fall while navigating fence 5b. Medical professionals were on the scene immediately, but despite their swift and dedicated efforts, she could not be saved. The incident has deeply saddened the equestrian world, where Campbell was highly regarded.
The horse involved, Global Quest, was quickly assessed by the on-site veterinary team. Fortunately, Global Quest was unharmed and was able to walk back to the stable without issue. The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust responded promptly to the incident, which occurred near Budleigh Salterton at approximately 3:05 PM on Sunday.
Their response included an air ambulance, a double-crewed land ambulance, an operations officer, and the hazardous area response team. The Bicton International Horse Trials, a prestigious four-day event, attracts competitors and spectators from around the world. The tragic accident on Sunday has cast a shadow over the event, which began on Thursday and was set to conclude on Sunday.
