The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is on a mission to uncover the circumstances surrounding a tragic incident that claimed the life of a young girl in Biscayne Bay over the weekend.
The incident occurred near Nixon Beach in Miami-Dade County on Saturday at approximately 4:30 p.m. According to initial reports from FWC, the girl, whose identity has not yet been released, was waterskiing when she was struck by a vessel.
Details provided by officials indicate that the vessel involved in the incident is a light blue Center Console, possibly with blue or dark blue bottom paint, and was powered by three or four white outboard engines. After the collision, it was observed heading westbound from Nixon Beach in Key Biscayne.
The FWC is urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information regarding the vessel to come forward. They can contact the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922 to provide any pertinent information.
As the investigation continues, the FWC is emphasizing the importance of boating safety and awareness, especially during busy periods on the water. Tragic incidents like these serve as stark reminders of the need for vigilance and responsible boating practices to prevent accidents and protect lives.
