Raphael Bastian, the esteemed chair of the board of trustees at Carrollton, passed away on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, after a brief illness. Over the past three years, Raphael had played a pivotal role in steering Carrollton to new heights.
Her legacy extended beyond her tenure as chair, as she had served on the board for six years and previously held the position of President of the Carrollton Parent Council. Her dedication to the mission of Sacred Heart education, centered on faith, intellect, service, and growth, left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
A proud alumna of Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Maryland, Raphael graduated in 1983 before pursuing her studies at Georgetown University and later earning her law degree from the University of Miami School of Law. It was during her time at law school that she met her husband, James Boink.
After living in various parts of the United States, they settled in Miami, where they raised their three children, Kateri, Marika, and Holt. Raphael's late mother, Bunny Bastian, also made significant contributions to Carrollton, serving on the Board of Trustees.
While Raphael's dedication to Carrollton was unwavering, her deepest love was for her family. She took immense pride in her husband and children, celebrating their accomplishments as they pursued their own paths. Kateri graduated from Boston College, Marika from Northeastern University, and Holt was set to graduate from Boston College in the coming weeks.
