Burgeoning writer, deteriorating hockey player Jay Bechtol, the beloved husband of Karalee Bechtol released the following statement:
“Good Morning Everyone- I've been back and forth about posting anything here, but there's something therapeutic about screaming into the void.
On Monday, my dear wife Karalee died unexpectedly. I've been a mess ever since. The girls came up, family poured into tiny little Homer. And, as happens in small towns, everyone knew by Tuesday morning.
She has a small store in town which sells beads and crystals and all sorts of things you didn't know you needed. She also reads tarot.
Her store is a safe place, a magic place and a place anyone in town can get the most compassionate, sympathetic ear you can imagine.
Karalee was a therapist in L.A. A damn good one. But in Homer she reinvented herself. Kind of.
Everyone in town knows that if you need to talk to someone, go see Karalee where she will listen to you and help you navigate the world in a way you hadn't thought possible. Still a therapist, disguised as a tarot reading shop owner.
I'm selfish. This should be my loss. MINE. But it isn't. She taught me that.
This is a loss for our family and the hundreds of people she touched in CA and AK with her kindness and wisdom. Karalee is beloved by so many, I don't know what they will do without her.
I don't know what I will do without her. I wish she was here to guide me. The girls and I will gain strength by seeing her in each of us. And for now, that will have to do.
For the last 28 year, this wife of mine has been amazing. But she wasn't really mine. I am simply one of the lucky one's who got to live in her world.”
