Dr. Sue Johnson EFT Death : Sue Johnson Obituary - Clinical Psychologist And Couples Therapist Died From Cancer

Sue Johnson, a prominent figure in the field of psychology and a leading expert in couples therapy, has sadly passed away. She died on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, after bravely battling cancer.

Throughout her career, Johnson made significant contributions to the understanding of bonding, attachment, and adult romantic relationships. She was widely recognized for her groundbreaking work in emotionally focused couples and family therapy (EFT), which she co-developed with Les Greenberg.

Johnson's academic journey began with a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Hull in 1968. Later, she pursued an Ed.D. in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, completing her studies in 1984. At the time of her passing, she held the distinguished title of Emeritus Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Ottawa.

In addition to her academic achievements, Johnson founded the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, dedicated to providing training in EFT to mental health professionals worldwide.

Her impact extended beyond the academic realm, as she authored numerous books aimed at both therapists and the general public, including EFT treatment manuals.

Johnson's contributions to the field of psychology were widely recognized. In 2016, she was honored as Family Psychologist of the Year by the American Psychological Association's Society for Couple and Family Psychology. The following year, she was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada, further solidifying her legacy.

The loss of Sue Johnson is deeply felt within the psychology community and beyond. Her pioneering work has left an indelible mark on the field, and her legacy will continue to inspire generations of therapists and researchers.
