Three people tragically lost their lives in Bradford County early Tuesday morning after a single-car crash in Athens Township caused a major disruption to traffic flow for several hours.
The incident, reported by the Athens Township Police Department, occurred around 2:39 a.m. on April 23, when a car traveling south on Riverside Drive collided with two parked trucks along the Susquehanna River.
Authorities stated that the vehicle was traveling at a high speed when it lost control, slamming into the parked trucks. The impact resulted in the deaths of all three occupants of the car.
Eyewitnesses and photographic evidence revealed that a silver sedan struck a Ford utility pickup truck, causing significant damage to the front of the vehicle. The force of the collision also propelled another white pickup truck, parked behind the Ford, down an embankment near the river.
Residents and bystanders in the area mentioned that a pronounced dip in the roadway likely contributed to the loss of control. The dip, located a short distance from the crash site, was conspicuous enough to be visible from a distance. During the investigation, it was noted that vehicles passing through the area were seen veering away from the dip, apparently due to its severity.
The Athens Township Police Department continues its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
