Webster, a 46-year-old from Aurora, did not stop; instead, he fled the scene, abandoning his truck on Old Michigan Road in southern Ripley County where troopers later spotted him walking nearby.

In the split second after the first crash, Larry W. Webster II allegedly accelerated his 1991 Chevrolet truck straight into the other driver, who had just stepped out of his vehicle on U.S. 421 near Michigan Road. What began as a routine rear-end collision in the midday calm of northern Jefferson County quickly escalated into something far more violent. According to Indiana State Police, the second impact was not an

accident but an intentional act, carried out as the victim stood exposed on the shoulder. The force of the hit left the man with injuries serious enough to require immediate hospital care, turning a moment of roadway inconvenience into a dangerous and deeply alarming incident.Rather than stopping to render aid or speak with authorities, Webster allegedly fled the scene, leaving chaos behind him.

His heavily damaged 1991 Chevrolet was later discovered abandoned on Old Michigan Road in southern Ripley County, a short distance from where the assault occurred. Troopers responding to the call began canvassing the area, and it wasn’t long before they spotted Webster walking nearby. Officers detained him without incident, bringing a swift end to a search that could have unfolded much differently.

Investigators spent the afternoon reconstructing the events leading up to the collisions, examining skid marks, debris, and witness statements to determine Webster’s actions and intent. Early reports suggest no mechanical issues or external factors contributed to the crash, reinforcing suspicions that the second strike was deliberate.

Charges are expected to include leaving the scene of an injury crash and potentially more severe counts related to the alleged intentional nature of the second impact. For the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, the ordeal transformed an ordinary drive into a traumatic and life-altering encounter. For local residents, the incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly roadways can shift from routine to violent in a single reckless decision.
