Updated reports from Minneapolis confirm that a devastating mass shooting unfolded at Annunciation Church and Catholic School on Wednesday morning, August 27, 2025. Authorities say the attack began shortly after 8:30 a.m., when gunfire erupted during a school Mass. According to multiple sources, two students were killed and at least 20 others injured in the assault, which sent children, teachers, and parishioners scrambling for safety.

Witnesses described the chaos inside the church as bullets tore through the stained-glass windows. Students reportedly dove under pews while teachers shielded children with their bodies. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, with ambulances transporting victims to area hospitals. Officials confirmed that several of the injured remain in critical condition.

In a troubling turn, law enforcement stated that the suspected gunman, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, fled the scene after opening fire. Contrary to earlier reports suggesting he had died by suicide, investigators now believe he escaped on foot or in a waiting vehicle. A manhunt is underway across Minneapolis and surrounding counties, with tactical units and federal partners involved.

Residents have been urged to remain indoors and report any suspicious activity immediately. The connection between the shooter and the church is also under scrutiny. Authorities confirmed that Westman’s mother was employed at Annunciation Catholic School, though her role in the community remains unclear. Investigators are probing whether her employment influenced the choice of target.

Governor Tim Walz condemned the attack as “a heartbreaking assault on children, faith, and community,” pledging state resources to both the investigation and victim support. Vigils are already forming outside the church, with candles and flowers left for the young lives lost. The tragedy has left Minneapolis on edge as the search for Westman intensifies and families grapple with the shattering aftermath.
