The stolen Hyundai Tucson slammed into a house after a police chase that stretched across three towns on July 31, 2025

Authorities say a high-speed chase through Kent County ended with the arrest of 19-year-old Brandon Carter, who now faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing police near North DuPont Highway. According to investigators, officers had attempted a traffic stop on Carter’s vehicle, but instead of pulling over, he accelerated and initiated a dangerous pursuit. The chase wound through several roadways, forcing officers to deploy a tire deflation device to bring the car to a halt.

Once the vehicle was disabled, Carter attempted to escape on foot. Officers gave chase and quickly apprehended him after a brief struggle. Two passengers, an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old, were also detained at the scene and later released to authorities for questioning. No injuries were reported during the pursuit, though police stressed that the situation posed a significant risk to the public given Carter’s reckless driving.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators discovered burglary tools, raising further suspicion about the group’s activities prior to the chase. Detectives are now working to determine whether the suspects may be connected to recent break-ins reported in the area. The evidence recovered has been logged, and charges related to possession of burglary tools are being considered alongside the traffic and evasion offenses.

Carter has been booked and is expected to face charges including felony fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and possession of burglary tools. Authorities emphasized their commitment to holding individuals accountable who endanger the community by fleeing law enforcement.

Police are continuing their investigation and encourage anyone with information about recent burglaries that may be tied to Carter and his associates to come forward. For residents shaken by the incident, officials reassured that proactive enforcement measures remain in place to deter criminal activity.
